Marryat Model MR75 ~ 2 13/16” ~ LHW/RHW ~ SN 010571 ~ EXC- ~ This light line reel was made in Japan and features a black frame and ventilated spool, silver quick-release latch plate cover, smooth silver 4-screw foot, black knob on an alloy post, a smooth drag system with silent retrieve and a silver drag adjustment knob.  The is some rim wear and a few light nicks on the back of the frame from normal use. Hardy “The Uniqua” ~ 2 7/8” ~ LHW/RHW ~ EXC ~ This English-built classic from Hardy was made for Von Lengerke & Detmold, Inc., a well-respected dealer of fine European shotguns and fishing tackle.  VL&D dates back to 1882 when Justus Von Lengerke formed a partnership with Ernst Detmold in New York City.  Justus’ brother Oswald, who originally worked with him in New York, eventually moved to Chicago and partnered with Charles Antoine to established the firm of Von Lengerke & Antoine (VL&A).  The year before Justus’s death, the New York firm of Abercrombie & Fitch purchased both VL&D and VL&A.  The Chicago store continued to operate under that name of VL&A until c. 1960.   This sweet little reel comes in the desirable 2 7/8” format and features attractive gray leaded finish with scrolled writing stamped on the back, solid spool with silver “telephone latch” quick spool release, chocolate brown ebonite handle on an alloy post, dual rivetted smooth brass foot, smooth and wobble-free dual spring and pawl mechanics that purr like a kitten, and a wonderful leaded patina. Orvis Access II Mid Arbor ~ 3” ~ LHW/RHW ~ EXC+ ~ This elegant looking lightweight reel from Orvis is machined from 6061 bar stock aluminum and features an attractive gold finish, ventilated frame and spool, 2-screw latch plate cover, smooth foot, black knob on an alloy post, silky smooth carbon fiber/stainless steel washer mechanics with a fully sealed drag, and convenient centrally located drag adjuster.  If you look had enough you might find a tiny nick or two, but the reel looks near new.  It is currently set up for LHW and is loaded with a Gen 3 Orvis Wonderline WF-4.  The reel comes with the original Orvis labeled ballistic nylon/neo reel case. $150

Unbranded Classic ~ 3" ~ RHW/LHW ~ As New ~ This unbranded classic-look reel is believed to be Asian-made and features a maple finish with silver bands, ventilated spool, smooth 2-screw silver foot, silver counter-balanced serpentine S-handle with black knob, and two-way, click and pawl mechanics that has a slight bias for LHW, but can be used for the right side for those who can’t go to their left. Bogdan Model 100 ~ 3 ½” ~ RHW ~ As New ~ The Bogdan name has long been synonymous with precision craftsmanship.  The Bogdan trout and salmon reels are considered to be among the finest ever produced and date back to the 1950s, when they were sold by Abercrombie & Fitch.  In the decades to follow, the Bogdan family produced reels of remarkable quality.  This Nashua, NH classic features a traditional black and silver finish, counterbalanced serpentine handle with black knob, strategically placed drag adjustment with an incredible range, poacher’s knob, silver plate bearing the maker’s name and smooth 2-screw silver foot.  The model number is nicely struck into the bottom of the foot between the screws.  Large silver screws provide access to the intricately designed and world renown internal mechanics. Hardy GEM MK II 5/6~ 3 5/8” ~ LHW/RHW ~ SN A20279 ~ EXC- ~ ~ This salt water resistant large arbor classic from Hardy features an upgraded aluminum ventilated frame and spool attractive anodized in satin blue, 3-screw quick release latch plate cover, black knob with counterbalance, smooth ported 2 screw foot, centrally located easy grip drag knob bearing the Hardy logo and Hardy’s strong carbon fibre brake mechanism especially designed for handling large fish.  It is presently set up for RHW and is loaded with line (type/wt. unknown).  The reel comes in a Hardy branded neoprene pouch.  It shows wear around the edges, but is mechanically smooth and tight. $195

Lamson USA 3.5 ~ 3 5/8” ~ LHW/RHW ~ EXC+ ~ This workhorse reel with an attractive matte black finish shows very little use and features a quick-release ventilated spool with black knob and silver counter-balance, smooth black foot, black drag adjustment knob, and a strong and silky smooth drag with a pleasing light click.  It is presently set up for LHW and is loaded with new line (type/wt. unknown).  It comes in its original seafoam green Lamson branded neoprene pouch. $150

Pflueger Medalist No. 1495 ~ 3 5/8” ~ RHW ~ EXC- ~ The classic design on of the Medalist can be seen on fly by Pflueger enthusiasts worldwide.  This Akron, OH classic features black ventilated frame and silver trimmed spool, metal diamolte line guard, 2-screw ivorine latch cap, 2-screw foot, rim-mounted ivorine drag adjuster, ivorine knob, silky smooth mechanics and that indelible Pfluger music that plays on line pay and retrieve.  The frame and spool have some paint loss and rim wear that is oft seen on this workhorse model.  The reel comes loaded with line (type/size unknown).  Simply put, these reels perform!....and look fantastic on bamboo, glass and graphite rods. $50

Hardy Golden “The Prince” 9/10 & Extra Spool ~ 3 3/4” ~ LHW/RHW ~ As New ~ This popular classic is the brother to “The Princess” and features an attractive bronze finish, ventilated spool, 2-screw bronze latch plate cover, ribbed dual-riveted bronze foot, single screw reversible line guard (it is currently set up for RHW), brown knob on an alloy post and a silky smooth drag system with duplicated pawl and large bronze knurled drag knob conveniently located in the center of back of the frame.  The reel comes stored in blue Hardy labeled zippered case and blue/white Hardy box with manual.  The extra spool comes with the original spool plug protector with Hardy logo and stored in its original orange/cream hardy labeled box.  I don’t think this has ever been lined or used and is a super find for the Hardy enthusiast. $275

Orvis Battenkill Large Arbor 5/6 ~ 3 3/4” ~ LHW/RHW ~ EXC+ ~ This English-made lightweight Orvis large arbor is machined from 6061 aircraft bar stock and is widely regarded as one of the best values out there . It features an attractive matte black finish, ventilated frame and spool, black 2-screw latch plate cover, 2-screw black foot, positive grip black beveled winding knob with a black counterbalance pin, and a silky smooth center line drag system with conveniently located large drag adjuster knob.  It is currently set up for LHW is loaded with a new Wulff TT-6 line.  It comes stored in its original classic Orvis labeled zip case.  This reel may have been used a time or two, but remains near new in appearance. $150

Sage Model 506 ~ 3 3/4” ~ LHW/RHW ~ SN 0370 ~ As New ~ These highly sought English-made reels were made exclusively for Sage by Hardy and are similar in craftsmanship to the Hardy St. George…with the addition of a palming reel at Sage’s request.  It features an attractive bronze-gold finish, silver trimmed ventilated spool, 2-screw silver latch plate cover, single screw reversible silver line guard, dual riveted silver foot, and black knob on an alloy post.  The silky-smooth dual spring and pawl mechanics with rim mounted drag tensioner screw on these reels are its main attraction.  It is reversible from LHW to RHW and is presently set up for LHW.  The reel is loaded with snow white backing and comes in its original in a soft-lined suede zippered case with embossed logo.  This one does not appear to have been used and is a super example of this popular model. $395

Lamson USA 4 ~ 3 7/8” ~ LHW/RHW ~ EXC+ ~ This workhorse reel from Lamson USA features a solid matte black frame and ventilated spool a with silver counter-balance, 2 screw quick-release latch plate, black winding knob, black drag adjustment knob, smooth black foot and super smooth mechanics with silent retrieve currently set up for LHW.  If you look hard enough you might find a few tiny nicks from very light use.  It comes loaded with a newish Rio Switch Chucker 4wt (325 grain line) and stored in a blue W.W. Cortland CLX III ~ 4” ~ RHW/LHW ~ EXC+ ~ This salmon/big quarry reel was made in Argentina for Cortland by STH and features a durable black epoxy finish, ventilated frame and spool, 2-screw quick release latch plate cover, 2 screw foot, grooved black adjustable drag regulator, twin sided sliver line guard, and grooved black knob with silver counterbalance.  CLX Reels were made with a stainless steel spindle and an interchangeable cassette system designed for quick line changes at an economical price.  The drag system features a large friction plate for smooth fightin’ control and covered drag pad for extra drag. This reel shows signs of limited use only.  It can be converted for use as a LHW or RHW reel (presently set up for RHW) and comes loaded with a newish Cortland 333 Bass WF-8 line. $75 $50

Valentine #400 Planetary & Extra Spool ~ 4” ~ LHW ~ SN CO1578 ~ EXC+ ~ This c. 1972 classic salmon reel was handcrafted by Val-Craft Inc. in Norton, MA from machined 6061-T6 aluminum and features an attractive type 1 gold andoized finish, ventilated spool, quick release mechanism with black cover plate, N/S line guard, beveled black knob, strong and silky smooth derlin and stainless steel drag with centrally located drag adjuster.  The reel comes with an extra spool, two newish 12 wt. lines, one floating and one sinking, and is stored in a brown leather zippered bag.  The reel looks to only have been used a few times and remains in like new condition.  If you’ve been after a smooth and reliable big water/big fish reel that won’t break the bank, this one should get some serious consideration. $395 $195

Cabela’s SR3 & Extra Spool ~ 4 1/4" ~ As New ~ This beefy large arbor reel features machined-aluminum construction, ported frame and spool, attractive silver-anodized finish, black knob with silver counter balance pin interchangeable spools, and a silky smooth and powerful silent retrieve Rulon disc drag.  It is presently set up for LHW and comes loaded with new backing and stored in a Cabela’s labeled ballistic nylon case.  This reel is perfect for Atlantic/Pacific Salmon, Steelies, freshwater bonefish and just about any large quarry.  I don’t think it has ever been fished. $95
