Hardy St. George Jr. ~ 2 1/2” ~ RHW ~ Serial No. A47567 ~ NEW ~ Named after the Patron Saint of England, St. George reels were first introduced in 1911 as a companion to the Hardy Perfect, and remained a popular staple in the Hardy lineup until 1983.  Made in Hardy’s Alnwick, England factory, this new iteration comes in the Spitfire finish and features the more durable anodized 6061 bar-stock aluminum construction with a ventilated spool, solid back, silky smooth dual pawl with silver drag tensioner, naval brass bushings 3 screw latch cover, round milky-white agate line guard housed in a N/S frame, wood-grain ivorine handle, and smooth 2-screw silver foot.  The set comes with the original Hardy labeled box, block leather case with Maker’s name, and a complete set of paperwork including a catalog-style manual and blank warranty card. Pflueger Golden West 80yd. ~ 2 1/2" ~ RHW ~ Serial No. 3397 ~ EXC ~ This exceedingly hard to find Pflueger classic in the very desirable 80 yard format features hard rubber frame and sides with silver pillars, inlaid silver rims, 3/4" wide spool, silver foot, counter-balanced handle with dark gray knob, silver screw off bearing cap, and strong mechanics with silver back mounted on/off clicker switch.  The black/gold Bulldog logo is perfectly intact on the faceplate.  The patent and serial number are stamped into the backplate.  There are a few nicks and marks from use. The finish on the front shows some fading that results in a wonderful patina.  It comes in a Crown Royal pull string satchel. $295

Hardy “The Uniqua” ~ 2 7/8” ~ LHW/RHW ~ EXC ~ This English-built classic from Hardy was made for Von Lengerke & Detmold, Inc., a well-respected dealer of fine European shotguns and fishing tackle.  VL&D dates back to 1882 when Justus Von Lengerke formed a partnership with Ernst Detmold in New York City.  Justus’ brother Oswald, who originally worked with him in New York, eventually moved to Chicago and partnered with Charles Antoine to established the firm of Von Lengerke & Antoine (VL&A).  The year before Justus’s death, the New York firm of Abercrombie & Fitch purchased both VL&D and VL&A.  The Chicago store continued to operate under that name of VL&A until c. 1960.  This sweet little reel comes in the desirable 2 7/8” format and features attractive gray leaded finish with scrolled writing stamped on the back, solid spool with silver horseshoe latch quick spool release, chocolate brown  (looks dark gray) ebonite handle on an alloy post, dual rivetted smooth brass foot, smooth dual spring and pawl mechanics set up for LHW and duplicated MKII check.  The finish loss on the back exposes a beautiful patina.  This is a super example of an early Uniqua that comes loaded with backing and will surely compliment your favorite light line bamboo rod (or any vintage rod for that matter) nicely! $275

Ross San Miguel Three ~ 3 3/8" ~ LHW/RHW ~ EXC- ~ This high grade classic from Ross is fully machined out of 6061 – T6 aircraft grade aluminum and features a jet black finish, ventilated, perfectly balanced spool with exposed rim palming, black knob, silver counterbalance pin, black push button 2-screw latch plate cover, black foot, and a silky smooth silent check friction-based Delrin drag system that is impervious to heat, compression, glazing, aging and crumbling.  The reel is mechanically excellent and cosmetically well used with nicks, surface scratches and rim wear (I assure you the fish won’t care!). It is presently set up for RHW and loaded with line (type/size unknown).  The reel is stored in a suede clam shell zippered case. $175

S.E. Bogdan Model 100 ~ 3 ½” ~ RHW ~ As New ~ The Bogdan name has long been synonymous with precision craftsmanship.  The Bogdan trout and salmon reels are considered to be among the finest ever produced and date back to the 1950s, when they were sold by Abercrombie & Fitch.  In the decades to follow, the Bogdan family produced reels of remarkable quality.  This Nashua, NH classic features a traditional black and silver finish, counterbalanced serpentine handle with black knob, strategically placed drag adjustment with an incredible range, poacher’s knob, silver plate bearing the maker’s name and smooth 2-screw silver foot.  The model number is nicely struck into the bottom of the foot between the screws.  Large silver screws provide access to the intricately designed and world renown internal mechanics. It comes stored in a suede leather pull string satchel with mfg. card and paperwork.  The 1 5/32" spool width is designed for #9 line and an ample amount of backing.  It’s a perfect size for Atlantics, steelies, stripers and other large quarry, not to mention is very popular with the switch rod enthusiast.  I don’t think this reel has ever been lined. Hardy Bougle’ MKIV & 2 Extra Spools ~ 3 ½” ~ RHW/LHW ~ Serial No. JDC880 ~ As New ~ This exquisite reproduction of the Hardy Bougle’ was derived from the historically significant Hardy Perfect and incorporates old world design and modern process and materials.  This classic features an attractive silver pillared frame, solid winding plate, ventilated spool, conveniently placed silver rim-mounted drag tension screw, smooth 2-screw silver foot, and is nicely accented by a rosewood winding knob on an alloy post.  The simpleness of the adjustable dual click and pawl drag system (currently set up for RHW) and smoothness of the ball bearings combine to make that classic Hardy sound that is unmistakable when heard on the river.  The reel comes loaded with new backing and is stored in its original Hardy labeled blue/white box with booklet/manual and blue Hardy zippered case.  The extra spools come in one Hardy labeled burgundy/cream box and a burgundy felt pull string satchel.  I don’t think this reel has ever been lined or used. Hardy “The Princess” Multiplier and Extra Spool~ 3 ½” ~ RHW/LHW ~ EXC (exception noted) ~ This desirable English-made classic from Hardy Bros. is not often seen in the multiplier format and features an attractive gray frame, silver ventilated spool, 2-screw silver latch plate cover, 2-screw silver line guard that can be converted from RHW to LHW (it is currently set up for RHW), black knob on an alloy post, dual riveted smooth silver foot and a smooth and strong dual click/pawl drag system with rim-mounted silver tensioner screw.  It shows rim and frame wear from past use.  The spool release lever needs to be adjusted which makes spool removal a bit difficult.  The reel comes with its original blue/cream zippered case.  The extra spool is stored in its original orange/cream box.  Because of the latch plate lever… $175

Young Beaudex ~ 3 1/2” ~ LHW/RHW ~ EXC- ~ This classic from Redditch, England features the black pebble finish frame, silver ventilated spool, quick-release spool latch with black 3-screw cover plate, 2-screw foot, strategically located drag regulator, dual metal line guards and silky smooth dual spring and pawl drag that is presently set up for RHW.  It comes loaded with an old 6 wt. line.  These popular English-made classics look great on older fiberglass and bamboo rods at a price that’s tough to beat. $75

J.W. Young Pridex ~ 3 1/2” ~ LHW/RHW ~ EXC ~ This early classic from Redditch England was marketed by the Garcia Corporation of New York.  It features black pebble finish frame, ventilated silver pebble finish spool, 3-screw black quick release latch plate cover, beveled black winding knob on an allow post with regd. patent number, black 2-screw foot and smooth spring and pawl drag set up for LHW.  The reel comes loaded with a WF-6 line (line type unknown) and stored in its original English made pull string satchel and original labeled box.  This wonderful example of a workhorse reel from across the pond is a super find for the Beaudex/Pridex enthusiast. $95

Hardy GEM MK II 5/6~ 3 5/8” ~ LHW/RHW ~ SN A20279 ~ EXC- ~ ~ This salt water resistant large arbor classic from Hardy features an upgraded aluminum ventilated frame and spool attractive anodized in satin blue, 3-screw quick release latch plate cover, black knob with counterbalance, smooth ported 2 screw foot, centrally located easy grip drag knob bearing the Hardy logo and Hardy’s strong carbon fibre brake mechanism especially designed for handling large fish.  It is presently set up for RHW and is loaded with line (type/wt. unknown).  The reel comes in a Hardy branded neoprene pouch.  It shows wear around the edges, but is mechanically smooth and tight. $195

Hardy Marquis 8/9 ~ 3 5/8” ~ RHW/LHW ~ As New - Hardy recently brought back this classic reel which was discontinued several years ago.  This is one of the originals made by Hardy Bros. that features an attractive bronzish-gray finish, silver ventilated spool, 2-screw metal latch plate cover, single screw reversible silver line guard, dual riveted foot smooth silver foot, black winding knob on an alloy post and black drag adjustment knob.  The wonderfully smooth and strong drag system sings that classic Marquis song on retrieve.  It comes in its original black vinyl Hardy labeled zip case, original box and Hardy Marquis manual.  This reel was purchased from Joe Sterling’s Maine shop shortly after he passed away and appears to be unused. Hardy “The Perfect” ~ 3 5/8” ~ RHW ~ EXC ~ The first Perfect reel was introduced c. 1889 and well over a century later, it is still regarded as one of the finest reel designs in the world.  The Hardy Perfect has long been cherished by collectors and are highly valued by anglers looking for a reel that offers traditional craftsmanship, simplicity, and performance.  This English-made classic features an attractive dark gray leaded finish, ventilated spool internally stamped 122, rim-mounted silver adjustable drag tensioner, chocolate brown knob on an alloy post, dual-riveted ribbed brass foot and wonderfully smooth mechanics that are among the best in the business.  It comes with a Hardy blue zippered case.  This classic has some surface wear and finish loss that results in a wonderful patina and would be a “perfect” compliment to your favorite fly rod, bamboo, glass or graphite.  $425 $350

Hardy “The Perfect” & Extra Spool ~ 3 5/8” ~ LHW ~ EXC ~ The first Perfect reel was introduced c. 1889 and well over a century later, it is still regarded as one of the finest reel designs in the world.  This model has stood the test of time and has long been cherished by anglers and collectors looking for a reel that offers traditional craftsmanship, simplicity, and performance.  This English-made classic in the rarely seen LHW format features an attractive gray finish, classic brown ceramic line guard housed in a round N/S frame, coin edged rims, ventilated spool, rim-mounted silver adjustable drag tensioner, black knob on an alloy pos, smooth dual riveted silver foot and strong silky-smooth mechanics that simply purr.  Straight line writing is engraved on the back.  There is a small area of very minor rim wear and if you look close enough you may see a few marks from light use.  The reel comes loaded with a new Cortland Peach line (either a DT-6 or WF-7) and stored in its original Hardy labeled black zippered case.  This extra spool also comes loaded with backing and is stored in its original Hardy Orange/White spool box.  This reel is a fly fishers dream that will compliment your favorite fly rod nicely, especially if it is made from bamboo. $695 $595

Lamson USA 3.5 ~ 3 5/8” ~ LHW/RHW ~ EXC+ ~ This workhorse reel with an attractive matte black finish shows very little use and features a quick-release ventilated spool with black knob and silver counter-balance, smooth black foot, black drag adjustment knob, and a strong and silky smooth drag with a pleasing light click.  It is presently set up for LHW and is loaded with new line (type/wt. unknown).  It comes in its original seafoam green Lamson branded neoprene pouch. $150

Hardy Golden “The Prince” 9/10 & Extra Spool ~ 3 3/4” ~ LHW/RHW ~ As New ~ This popular classic is the brother to “The Princess” and features an attractive bronze finish, ventilated spool, 2-screw bronze latch plate cover, ribbed dual-riveted bronze foot, single screw reversible line guard (it is currently set up for RHW), brown knob on an alloy post and a silky smooth drag system with duplicated pawl and large bronze knurled drag knob conveniently located in the center of back of the frame.  The reel comes stored in blue Hardy labeled zippered case and blue/white Hardy box with manual.  The extra spool comes with the original spool plug protector with Hardy logo and stored in its original orange/cream hardy labeled box.  I don’t think this has ever been lined or used and is a super find for the Hardy enthusiast. $275 $225

Orvis Battenkill Large Arbor 5/6 ~ 3 3/4” ~ LHW/RHW ~ EXC+ ~ This English-made lightweight Orvis large arbor is machined from 6061 aircraft bar stock and is widely regarded as one of the best values out there . It features an attractive matte black finish, ventilated frame and spool, black 2-screw latch plate cover, 2-screw black foot, positive grip black beveled winding knob with a black counterbalance pin, and a silky smooth center line drag system with conveniently located large drag adjuster knob.  It is currently set up for LHW is loaded with a new Wulff TT-6 line.  It comes stored in its original classic Orvis labeled zip case.  This reel may have been used a time or two, but remains near new in appearance. $150

Sage Model 506 ~ 3 3/4” ~ LHW/RHW ~ SN 0370 ~ As New ~ These highly sought English-made reels were made exclusively for Sage by Hardy and are similar in craftsmanship to the Hardy St. George…with the addition of a palming reel at Sage’s request.  It features an attractive bronze-gold finish, silver trimmed ventilated spool, 2-screw silver latch plate cover, single screw reversible silver line guard, dual riveted silver foot, and black knob on an alloy post.  The silky-smooth dual spring and pawl mechanics with rim mounted drag tensioner screw on these reels are its main attraction.  It is reversible from LHW to RHW and is presently set up for LHW.  The reel is loaded with snow white backing and comes in its original in a soft-lined suede zippered case with embossed logo.  This one does not appear to have been used and is a super example of this popular model. $395 $350

Lamson USA 4 ~ 3 7/8” ~ LHW/RHW ~ EXC+ ~ This workhorse reel from Lamson USA features a solid matte black frame and ventilated spool a with silver counter-balance, 2 screw quick-release latch plate, black winding knob, black drag adjustment knob, smooth black foot and super smooth mechanics with silent retrieve currently set up for LHW.  If you look hard enough you might find a few tiny nicks from very light use.  It comes loaded with a newish Rio Switch Chucker 4wt (325 grain line) and stored in a blue W.W. Doak neo case.  This is a really nice example of this popular reel $125

Cortland CLX III ~ 4” ~ RHW/LHW ~ EXC+ ~ This salmon/big quarry reel was made in Argentina for Cortland by STH and features a durable black epoxy finish, ventilated frame and spool, 2-screw quick release latch plate cover, 2 screw foot, grooved black adjustable drag regulator, twin sided sliver line guard, and grooved black knob with silver counterbalance.  CLX Reels were made with a stainless steel spindle and an interchangeable cassette system designed for quick line changes at an economical price.  The drag system features a large friction plate for smooth fightin’ control and covered drag pad for extra drag. This reel shows signs of limited use only.  It can be converted for use as a LHW or RHW reel (presently set up for RHW) and comes loaded with a newish Cortland 333 Bass WF-8 line. $75 $50

Cabela’s SR3 & Extra Spool ~ 4 1/4" ~ As New ~ This beefy large arbor reel features machined-aluminum construction, ported frame and spool, attractive silver-anodized finish, black knob with silver counter balance pin interchangeable spools, and a silky smooth and powerful silent retrieve Rulon disc drag.  It is presently set up for LHW and comes loaded with new backing and stored in a Cabela’s labeled ballistic nylon case.  This reel is perfect for Atlantic/Pacific Salmon, Steelies, freshwater bonefish and just about any large quarry.  I don’t think it has ever been fished. $95
